Pink or Blue?

The colors most people focus on for Election Day is red and blue. For us this year, our results came in the form of either pink or blue. While home from work due to schools acting as voting polls, I got a message that our genetic results were in! I yelled for Michael and we opened the message together.

It began with all of the other genetic information first. We were so relieved to see that there is a very low chance for genetic abnormalities. All chromosomes were presenting normally. We felt a huge weight lift from our shoulders since we’ve had abnormal embryos in the past. Then it asked if we wanted to know the sex. We clicked “yes” and I swear it took over a minute to load, though it was probably more like 2 seconds. Then it finally popped up and said, “Congratulations! It’s a female!” Ahhh! I was beyond elated. I hugged Michael and gave him a big kiss. She was grinning too, yet had a bit of a worried look on his face too. We now knew that the little one inside me is a girl. No more gray and yellow baby clothes. It’s PINK all the way!

The next thing we wanted to do was call family and share the news. I called mom, and we asked if she wanted to know the results now or later since she was at work. She of course wanted to know now and stepped outside. Michael asked, “What kind of discount do you get at the dance studio?” I shouted, “It’s a girl!!!” and Mom screamed out loud saying YES! She then said she already had bought some girl stuff because she anticipated and hopes it was a girl.

We then called Michael’s mom. I yelled, “PINK!” and she was so surprised. She was sure it was going to be a boy, but is so excited to have a girl joining the family! Bows, dresses, and sparkly things galore!

Next was Dad. He was at work too but was able to answer. When we said we were having a girl, he said, “I knew it!” and congratulated us. Michael asked jokingly for advice for having a girl and my dad said that there is nothing you can do to prepare ahead and to make an SOS phone call when he finds himself wanting to hide in the closet.

After we called and texted a few more family members and friends, I asked Michael if we could go shopping! We excitedly drove down the road to Boscovs and took turns picking out cute little outfits. They were all flowers and rainbows with sweet little frills and puffs. I have walked through that exact section along with so many other stores clothing racks buying presents for other people all while waiting for the day to come when I would get to buy them for my daughter. I can’t believe my turn is finally here! I would have been so happy to bring a son into this world, don’t get me wrong! It is just icing on the cake that I get to have a little princess, a tiny ballerina, a living baby doll all my own!
