We shared our exciting news on Friday November first. I posted our announcement video on Facebook and we were immediately flooded with texts, messages, and comments about how happy everyone is for us. As I scrolled through them all, tears welled up in my eyes. The love and support is astounding. It felt like the world had been rooting for us and praying that our miracle would come. It is amazing to think how wanted this baby is. I want to say a huge “thank you” to everyone that has been following our journey and sending well wishes and prayers. Baby Damskey is on the way!
Another announcement I was excited for was telling my students. I decided to do this on Novemeber 1st too to ensure they found out the news from me and not through the grapevine. My partner teacher and I gathered all 51 kids in her room to review “recess rules,” then I said I was going to answer some question they’d been asking recently. “Why do you have so many doctor appointments?” “Why do you get to have a snack?” “Why do you get soda!?” My partner then put the sonogram photo on the screen and I said, “This is why.” Their faces were adorable! There was an audible gasp and faces of pure surprise. I told them I was having a baby! They cheered and had a million questions. “That baby is in your tummy?” “How big is it?” “Will we have a substitute for a long time?” “Can we see the baby when it born?” “Is its first name ‘Baby?’” “Is it a boy or girl?” I answered what I could, then said that we didn’t know the gender yet, but that I actually had a request for them. I had cut out numerous pink and blue hearts and tasked them to try and guess whether they think the baby will be a boy or girl and to write possible names on the hearts. Oh my gosh, they were hilarious! Thunder, Browski, Linda, Keisha, Mateo, Fernando, Steve Erwin, Phillipa… then a large portion put their name as an option of course! These hearts will certainly be kept as part of our little one’s baby box! My students’ excitement certainly has me even more excited.
