Best Birthday Gift

I had decided that my birthday would be the perfect time to share our news with the rest of my family. Keeping it a secret has been so hard, but also felt safer. I wanted to come up with a way to tell them without simply saying the words so I coordinated with my mom to make a little video. I compiled some photos and videos and she put them into a reel.

Once everyone had arrived at my parents’ house, before eating pizza, my mom said that she wanted to share a quick video about her “next adventure.” My aunt was trying to guess if she got a different job or something! Everyone was sitting in the living room and the video began with a countdown from 10. I remember looking at their faces rather than the video. I wanted to see each of their reactions and save them in my memory.

Grandma had a surprise face with her mouth open and gave me a hug. Grandpa gave me a big hug too. My aunt did a big “Yay!” while my uncle teared up a bit, but my brother’s reaction was the best. He was sobbing. It made my heart swell to see how much he had been rooting for us and how happy he was to learn about our miracle. My baby will be so luck to have an uncle like him.

Getting to FINALLY share joyous news with them was truly the best birthday gift. No present could ever compare. This child will bring so much happiness to our family and will be absolutely spoiled rotten. I am so excited to see how he or she changes all our lives for the better.
