“Morning” sickness has come in like a wrecking ball! At exactly the 6 week milestone, I almost got sick in my classroom. I have a student that has an illness that causes him to chronically throw up. Naturally he did it that morning first thing. I think my face actually turned green! I stepped into the hall and flagged down the first staff member I could find. In one deep breath, I said to the art teacher, “I am pregnant and no one knows, but a student is throwing up in the trash can and I’m going to throw up too, please take him to the nurse!” Thankfully he acted very quickly and I was able to pop in a nausea sweet and settle my stomach a bit.

Around lunch though I couldn’t eat. I had some of it like the oatmeal bar, but felt pukey. I ended up have Michael deliver a ginger ale and peanut butter sandwich. My hero! I now know I need to be much more prepared with back up drinks and foods.

I woke up the next day at my usual 3am and felt like complete shit. Nausea mixed with heartburn and a total adversity to food is a fun combination. I laid on the bathroom floor for an hour and ended up retiring to the couch with a bucket just in case. My alarm went off at 7am and I tried my best to eat. I tried toast and oatmeal and as soon as I’d put the spoon to my lips, I’d gag or dry heave. I couldn’t do more than a couple sips of water or ginger ale. I had to call off and I’m glad I did because it lasted all day. No surprise it was Friday the 13th!

The follow day was better, not great, but better. 3 am was still the wake up time, but I was able to eat some crackers and a nausea sweet. I ate a bagel for breakfast and yogurt for lunch. My tummy is still unhappy, but I have some tools and foods that are helping. I think I might just be one of those people that get “morning” sickness more severely than others. I’m completely fine with that though as long as it means I get to hold this baby in my arms.
