We are 12 weeks! I am still in disbelief that we are here. It feels like a dream so much so that reality hasn’t fully sunk in. Our second trip to the OBGYN was incredible. Our baby actually looks like a baby! We could see their little nose and all their individual fingers. Not just that, but they were bouncing around! Waving arms, kicking legs, and looking like they were on a trampoline! It’s crazy that I can’t feel it yet, but I suppose I will soon enough. Seeing our baby this time surely helped reality sink in a bit more.
We were a bit nervous for this appointment because they sold us they would be checking for nasal bone development and the thickness of the neck pad because abnormalities in those area would be a sign of a disability of some sort such as down syndrome. With our history with genetic abnormalities in previous embryos, this was absolutely a possibility for us. Since our miracle was conceived naturally, we didn’t get a chance to “test” this embryo. Thankfully the nasal bone looked properly developed and the neck pad was a proper thickness.
We were also able to get bloodwork done on this day to get further genetic information. Again, with our history, I was all for this. Plus it would let us know the gender too! 7 viles of blood later, we were told it would take between 7-10 days to get the results. Ahh! That feels like so long to wait! I know it will seem like no time at all once we know and I am grateful that these types of tests are even available! Waiting until 20 weeks for an anatomy scan would mean 8 more weeks of waiting. Or even waiting until the birth would mean 28ish weeks of waiting. I’ll take 10 days!
